ITINERARY 3 THE UNDERGROUND OF ART

The Times of London in a few of its article has appreciated the political will of the Neapolitan administration to engage a group of architects and artists active from the post war era to the present such as Gae Aulenti, Domenico Orlacchio and members of the last generation as Sol Lewitt, Joseph Kossuth all with very personal ,experimental languages to express their point of views. In transit, the underground passengers visit a true "obligatory museum" There is the obligation for the collective observation of artworks and the pleasure of an extended democracy of collective taste. The new line of the underground represents the unique example of a good mix between art and town planning, to get trough the city in a quick, comfortable and ecological way, but also to communicate the new image of Naples.

- Stazione Dante : signed lights and shadows.
- Stazione Museo : the station of the National Archeological Museum with Hercules Farnese.
- Stazione Materdei : with set design ,decorative elements, colours, all giving dignity to underground spaces..
- Stazione Salvator Rosa : lights, set design and colours by the architect from Milan, Alessandro Mendini, in a deep station which has multiple exits on the homonymous street, via Romaniello and piazza Girolamo Santacroce.
- Stazione Cilea : the artists' soul of Naples.
- Stazione Vanvitelli : the art in a rational station.
